Mikes PreReview:
State of Fear: Goodness gracious, State of Fear? Michael Crichton cashing another fat check as he combines the plotlines for Cape Fear and Enemy of the State into one bizarrly paced mess of a novel. The main characters are tired rehashes and the ending leaves the main questions unanswered.
On the Beach: Enough with the beaches of Normandy. Everyone who has seen Waiting for Private Ryan knows what happened. I will give the author credit in that he tells the story from the perspective of a Nazi chef who organized volleyball games on those very beaches before the battle began. Unfortunately the war tale cannot be properly told as the chef is obviously not concerned about the war and spends most of the time talking about his appreciation for aged cheeses. If you enjoy Alton Brown, I would pick this up.
